The Arts & Crafts movement arose out of a reaction and pushback to excessively ornate Victorian design and a revolt against mass-production. The movers and shakers of the movement put emphasis on things made with great craftsmanship, one at a time when possible. Similar to the slow craft movement of our time, things made by hand and with intention were prized above cheap (and cheaply made) mass-produced items.
This scarf celebrates the simplified designs of the era, with an elegant but easy to work lace pattern and neat, faux i-cord edges that don’t detract from the rest of the design.
The scarf uses a provisional cast on and is worked from the center out to the end and bound off. Live stitches are then returned to the needle and the second side of the scarf is worked to the opposite end.
